We had the great pleasure of sitting down with Joe Schenkenberg, the bottlecap master, this month to discuss the forgotten art of the bottlecap shot and his latest film Bottlecap Assassins.

If you like action, humor, and great special effects, than Bottlecap Assassins is the film for you. Joe says it’s “Kill Bill shoot’em up meets kind of a mafiaesque movie” that provides, “a lot of action, a little blood shed, and a lot of fun”. What more could you want!

After Bottlecap Assassins, we screened the short film, Dog Te Ching, by John Fitch III. It’s short, but packs a mystical punch.

We then screened the film, The Clock Shop, the latest documentary from our friends Bill Judge and Bodhi Leaf Productions. “

This month we headed back to The Carolina Theatre for two outstanding interviews, Mr. Aaron Syrett, of the NC Film Commission, and Nic Beery of Beery Media and we screened Nic’s short film entitled, Nightlife.

We first had the pleasure to sit down with North Carolina Film Commission Director, Aaron Syrett. He talked about film opportunities in the state, explained what his department does, and how you can get involved. After sitting down with Mr. Syrett, we spoke with our friend Nic Beery of Beery Media.

We screened the trailer for The Mad Tea Party Documentary: Post-Modern Parlor Music during our first break. When we returned, we spoke with Nic about the film and how he will be releasing the film in ten minute chunks via YouTube.

NIGHTLIFE

NightLife takes a look at a day in the life of a woman named Medea who doesn’t know where to find love. We begin just as she has run out of gas and must walk to the nearest station. As the afternoon rolls into night, things go from bad to worse and we discover more about how Medea got into this situation.

NightLife is a 12 minute short shot in High Definition that is circling the Festival circuit throughout 2008.

The cast includes Melissa Lozoff, Mike Harris, Kelly Davis and Selena Lauterer.

This month on the show we have the distinct pleasure of talking with and old friend, Jim McQuaid of Turnip Video, and a new friend, Rodger Lee Edwards of Cool Breeze Communications. Both filmmakers have come together to produce “Trouble in The Water” which is our feature short film this month.

Trouble in the Water, a joint production of Turnip and Cool Breeze Communications, was written by North Carolina native Roger Lee Edwards, Jr.

In this short film, we get to know Gary Simmons — a young African-American — and learn how, over the years, he’s allowed the constant bombardment of negative cultural images and messages (from both within and outside his race) to gradually drag him down. Now, he struggles between the love he’s supposed to feel for his people and the alienating affect of their negative — and sometimes embarrassing — behavior and attitudes. The key to transcending the negativity … he finds in an unexpected place.

Based on the author’s experience of racial negativity — growing up in the African-American community — and inspired by reflections on the Langston Hughes poem, “My People.”

We’re also screening a short this month entitled “Whirling Dirvish.” From SourToe Productions, this visually compelling short is a lifetime of dancing through the eyes of a little girl.

This month we had the pleasure to screen a short film by Daisy Faith and give you an exclusive first look at the 9th Annual Nevermore Film Festival, February 22-24, 2008.

We start the show off with an interview with Carolina Theatre’s Senior Director Jim Carl and he gives us a detailed look at what will be screening at this year’s festival.

Two exclusive highlights to this year’s festival will be the screening of Dario Argento’s Tenebre, never before run in the USA.

Scott Miles Interview

This month we had the great pleasure to sit down with the very accomplished actor/writer/producer Scott Miles. Scott has acted in such films as October Sky, The Patriot, and New Best Friend, and comes onto Second Cinema this month to talk about his writing/producing debut Little Chicago. Miles takes the lead role in the film and gives an amazing performance as Cal Rowan.

Scott sits down to talk about the film, his experience here in the Tarheel State, and gives a snapshot of the film with the trailer for Little Chicago. It was a fascinating interview and we thank Scott for coming on the show.

This month we had the pleasure of screening a wonderful documentary for our December = Documentary show. From Bodhi Leaf Productions and Bill Judge, comes Venerable Geshe Tsulga: A Single Day in a Lifetime of Practice. We have aired Judge’s work on the show before ( Microgravity: A musical journey with Anne Cabrera…) and are thrilled to have his latest film airing in it’s entirety to wrap up ‘07.
